¿What is the Bosques para Siempre BPS Program?
|
It is an initiative of ENDESA, BOTROSA with the technical support of FFJMD aimed at impelling a Sustainable Forest Management in productive native forests and to promote the expansion of forest plantations in combination with the social development of neighboring communities. |
The BPS Program is based on the principles of a Sustainable Forest Development which means reaching equilibrium among the environmental, social, economical and forestry aspects of the whole operation, which will eventually benefit the forest, its people and the industrial progress of the country.
According to the three agencies involved, the sustainable development of native forests and new plantations is the basis for securing adequate supply of lumber in the long run. This can be attained by maintaining a continuous production of wood materials taking into consideration the social and environmental aspects of the operation.
The BPS Program contemplates, from the beginning, the promotion, establishment and management of forest plantations as an effective system to give forest use to lands with that aptitude, with the main purpose of wood production without considering the environmental services that the planted and natural forests give.
The BPS Program is being executed mainly in the provinces of Esmeraldas, Imbabura and Pichincha.
The BPS Program is also meant to inform about the efforts and activities carried out by the three agencies involved to reach a Sustainable Forest Management status oriented to promote and maintain our "Forests Forever".
