Endesa and Botrosa are responsible tropical hardwood plywood producers committed to sustainable forest management practices. We support the work of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), the Forests Forever Campaign, the ITTO Target 2000 initiative and the Tropical Forest Foundation principles.

• Concerned about the sustainable development of the forestry sector in Ecuador, Endesa and Botrosa co-founded in 1978, Fundacion Forestal Juan Manuel Durini — FFJMD, an internationally recognized NGO which develops important projects in silvicultural research, plantations, afforestation, reforestation, and sustainable forest management.

• With the support of the International Tropical Timber Organization — ITTO, FFJMD concluded in 1998, one of the most important field projects in Sustainable Forest Management called "La Mayronga". Additionally, grants from the DFID are encouraging the diffusion of the knowledge and experiences of FFJMD in conserving tropical forests through sustainable forestry.

• The plywood mills together with FFJMD, manage more than 50,000 hectares of native forests and up-to-date have planted with multiple species more than 6,000 hectares of bare land, creating the most important and diverse plantations of moist and humid tropical forests in South America.

• Endesa and Botrosa are permanently increasing their tropical forests plantations and improving their low-impact logging techniques in accordance with sustainable forest management principles, managing permanent forest land in a way that promotes the protection of soil, water, wildlife and timber resources in perpetuity.

• Endesa-Botrosa is initiating a process of certification until at least 80% of their raw materials come from certified forests.
